CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR – UTAH

The Construction Inspector will be responsible for performing, coordinating and assuring all applicable codes and standards are met.

This position will report to either a site manager or project manager who will establish clear expectations in terms of work quality, efficiency, and technical development. The employee in this position will work directly with clients on technical aspects of the projects and therefore must be able to communicate technical requirements and deliverables clearly and concisely. This position may require travel throughout the Western United States.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform duties of a Construction Inspector and have the ability to: prepare contract modifications; develop independent cost estimates; review Construction Contractor progress payments for accuracy; obtain field measurements of construction materials and products; review and assist the CO in preparing contract claim responses; document project progress (videography and photography): develop special reports; and review contract submittals including shop drawings for compliance with the contract
  • Assist the Owner’s representative in contract administration of the construction contract
  • Assist in the inspection of all phases of work and ensuring contract compliance
  • Document work on a daily basis utilizing Owner’s EEBAC System
  • Identify changes, errors, or field adjustments to the contract documents and recommend action to the Owner’s representative
  • Monitor Construction Contractor’s quality control operations for contract compliance
  • Verify materials inspection and testing is performed to standard
  • Monitor Construction Contractor traffic control and safety plan for contract and Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices compliance
  • Monitor work for compliance with environmental requirements
  • Train on-site personnel as required in the performance or inspection and testing responsibilities
  • Monitor Construction Contractor’s construction schedule
    May function as an assistant contract manager on a temporary basis in the absence of the Owner’s representative

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Possess one of the following minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or professional engineer registration
  • Associates Degree in Engineering Technology
  • Ten years of highway construction experience as a Project or Resident Engineer, Assistant Project Engineer, Chief Inspector, or equivalent on State or Federal highway or bridge construction projects
  • Documented proficiency in highway construction inspection services for:
    • Hot asphalt concrete paving
    • Concrete structures
    • Earthwork
    • Drainage system and utility work
    • Traffic Control System
    • Soil Erosion and Sediment Controls
  • Possess good communication skills, both verbally and written
  • Possess good computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Possess good mathematical skills
  • Possess good proficiency with CPM construction schedules
  • Experience in on-site Field Inspection services in environmentally sensitive areas such as National Forest, Fish, and Wildlife Refuges, and National Parks
  • Knowledge of general design principles; safety and labor laws and requirements; quality control-quality assurance principles
  • Proficiency in administering transportation contracts, specifications and plan interpretations
  • Capable of performing material testing for aggregate, asphalt concrete pavement, Portland cement concrete pavement and embankment
  • Experience working for Central or Western Federal Lands is a plus
