SENIOR ENGINEER – SACRAMENTO

The Senior Engineer will act in the capacity of a consultant working for owner agencies. You will perform work on construction projects for bridges and other transportation structures.  The position requires thorough knowledge of civil/structural design, construction, construction management and material management and perform independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of these techniques, procedures and criteria. You will also be responsible for the construction management and the management of the quality of materials incorporated into construction contracts.  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct engineering investigations to identify the suitability of materials for construction projects
  • Coordinate team of engineers and technicians as needed to perform the work
  • Meet regularly with clients to establish and maintain open lines of communication
  • Lead technical project management for all phases of a project including scheduling, estimates, engineering specifications, materials procurement, construction, cost tracking
  • Identify resources needed to accomplish client’s QA and source inspection responsibilities
  • Develop and produce work plans, schedules, and budgets
  • Prepare estimates and proposals
  • Ability to present in public
  • Act as point of contact for all phases of a project and drive technical analysis
  • Ensure consistency and compliance with contracts, agreements, and management policies
  • Ensure processes & procedures are documented, understood and implemented
  • Facilitate process improvement using quality tools such as RACI charts
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and manage implementation of solutions
  • Perform specifications and drawing review or oversight where needed
  • Anticipate and resolve QA issues, maintaining consistency, project schedule, and contract cost
  • Assess site and office conditions for safety concerns, and maintain regular safety meetings
  • Provide clear, effective, and timely recommendations to clients
  • Observe and independently verify fabrication, manufacturing, and construction processes
  • Perform or review/oversee verification sampling and testing where needed
  • Perform or review engineering calculations where needed
  • Perform field observations of construction/fabrication where appropriate
  • Identify deviations and non-conformances from established standards and ensure resolution
  • Manage milestones and ensure successful completion of deliverables
  • Write clear and concise technical reports

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S. in Civil or Mechanical Engineering required
  • M.S. in Civil Engineering preferred
  • P.E. required
  • Work with limited supervision
  • Experience working with a public agency preferable
  • Field experience on a construction site preferred
  • Effective written, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Results oriented and able to complete tasks on deadline
  • Ability to analyze problems and draw conclusions
  • Ability to work as part of a team involving staff, clients and outside agencies
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office (Word & Excel)
  • Strong organizational skills, including an ability to prioritize activities with limited supervision
  • 5+ years of professional relevant experience required
  • Valid California Driver’s License required
  • Experience working on roadway and highway related projects
